Despite the myriad of drum kit pieces in SD3, I'm making an earnest effort to live with a minimalist kit. I think mindset has a lot to do with having success with this software.

I'm considering a Roland V-Drum kit in the future but that's a totally different subject. But lately I'm feeling more and more that I'm going to totally abandon the method of quantizing ANYTHING (I would quantize and then slightly randomize the grid placement in Logic AKA humanize function) but 99% of the time it's going to sound better when I get a really good take of "keyboard tapping" and just roll with whatever I got on my performance, while overdubbing pedal hats on a ride groove as an example. The album in my sig was programmed with SD3 and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I absolutely love SD3 but man do I wonder how other more accomplished recordists do it. And it's more than just a mixing issue it really is the note selection, velocities, and grid placement only to not work when you add your guitars and bass. Really sucks when you spend weeks programming a drum track to make it sound amazing and realistic, ghost notes everywhere, sick fills. I certainly love using a real drummer.mainly because it easier to have someone just play the drums than having to build kits and sequence the tracks, and I even have a couple of drum kits in the studio, with about a dozen snares and lots of cymbals.but none of that compares to the amount of different drum sounds you can get from SD3 with all their pack, and the different mic options that they provide.Īh, making Superior Drummer sound good in a mix, one of the most frustrating things in life. How many different mic positions do you put up, with all the different variations possible? When you use a real drummer.how many sets of drum kits, cymbals and snares does he usually bring? I don't think I've ever used any SDX kit without adding something from another SDX pack. Have you not seen this in Superior Drummer? Superior Drummer has the "X-Drums" option.so you can pick your core kit, and then using X-Drums, you can switch toms or snares or om other SDX packs.

You don't have to switch kits to get a different cymbal, etc.just pull a cymbal from one of the other kits.
